This was a perfect week for the next recipe in the Real German Cooking Challenge - Pharisaer (Pharisee) - Coffee with Rum on Amiexpat.com with Christina!It has been rainy here in Greenville this week - the kind of days that make you want to stay in the house and do as little as possible!
This recipe is simple - coffee, a shot of rum, and whipped cream. I had a moment of indecision trying to decide which kind of rum to use - and went with the regular rum instead of white. I don't think it would really make a difference... would it? Maybe I will have to have my own taste test and let you know!
I did enjoy the drink - and found that the rum wasn't as strong as I thought that it would be - more soothing of an undertone in the drink - and blending the flavor with the whipped cream gave it a dessert like quality.
My recommendation for this drink - don't skimp on the whipped cream! I actually put another dollop on after the first serving was gone!After all, it was a rainy day.... :-) A little more whipped cream helped make it better.... and the shot of rum in the coffee didn't hurt either!
*** I did try this drink using white rum (all for the sake of comparison..!) and have decided that the type of rum DOES matter - I really liked the regular rum better! The white rum got lost in the coffee and didn't add much to the flavor.
Also - after reading Christina's post on this drink, I put my second drink with the white rum in a clear mug - designed for this type of drink (DUH to me!!!! I can't believe I didn't think of this until reading her post!!! Thanks for reminding me that there is a reason why we have ten thousand glasses in our home :-) Doesn't it look delicious?!?Next Week: Kalbshaxn (Veal knuckle)!

Yum! How could anything using those three ingredients be bad? I may have to have this tonight.

*drool* I miss Germany!
Those look so good. I think a nice big double dollop of whipped cream is a great improvement to the recipe.
That looks divine! I don't do coffee, but anything involving whipped cream and rum HAS to be yummy!
looks great! was certainly yummy. I agree, I used the four person recipe for two people, using a two serving espresso maker. That translates to double whipped cream! And boy was it delicious. I am just going to assume all those calories in the recipe came from the coffee and rum :)
@Angie - I agree! hope you tried it!
@Miss Destructo - I miss Germany too!
@Christina, Stephanie and Emily - whipped cream does *make* this drink!
